Death of a Prominent Clevelander Whose Wife was a Mansfield Girl

The following with reference to the death of Charles H. Bulkley, son-in-law of Z.S. Stocking, was published in the Cleveland Press yesterday:

The death of Charles H. Bulkley occurred Sunday at his home on Euclid Avenue, after an illness of six weeks.  He was born near Albany, N.Y., Sept. 20, 1842.  He was the son of Henry G. Bulkley, and a descendant of Rev. Peter Bulkley, a Congregational minister, who gave the first library to Harvard College.

From New York his family removed to Kalamazoo, Mich.  Mr. Bulkley entered college in 1859, but remained less than two years.  In 1861, he came to Cleveland and entered the law office of Judge J.P. Bishop as a student.  Soon afterward he engaged in the real estate business, and became the agent of the United State Mortgage Co., in which capacity he handled many millions of dollars in a capable manner.

When the park commission was created Mr. Bulkley was made its president.  He was a director of the National Bank of Commerce, and of the Chamber of Commerce, and vice-president of the Plain Dealer Publishing Co.  He was treasurer of the Union Club from 1878 to 1888, and president in 1888 and 1889.  He has also had charge of the real estate of the late W.J. Gordon.

Mr. Bulkley is survived by Mrs. Bulkley and two sons.  Mrs. L.E. Holden was his sister.  The funeral will probable [sic.] take place at 2 p.m. Tuesday.
